He’s gotten better each season, but will need to stop making so many mistakes if that trend will continue. Jones has already been picked four times through three games this season after tossing just five interceptions in 16 games in 2022.

Still, his AHL numbers (.920 save percentage over 26 games) were promising. If you’re seeking a relative unknown goalie as a sleeper pick with some upside potential, consider big-bodied (6’4″, 206) Johansson. He could pay dividends over the first few weeks of the campaign, and certainly looked ready for the part on Friday, putting up a 42-save shutout.

Well, we wouldn’t want to put that kind of pressure on the kid, but he is averaging 21.7 YPR in college, and that’s damned impressive. And realistically, Harrison Jr. could easily be the most talented prospect available on draft day next year.

The waiver wire can offer value in multiple ways. Sometimes, it provides a temporary fix to an injury issue or it’s simply a case of jumping on a player delivering short-term value. But when you pick up a player and he sticks on your team for all or most of the season and contributes throughout, that is the true definition of waiver wire gold.

In fact, things got so bad this season that he was relegated to the bullpen, even managing to bag his first career save a few weeks ago. But Manaea got another start on Tuesday and was quite good, coming within one out of a QS, and will get another crack on Sunday. Yes, it’s in Colorado, so is not the best streaming option, but the fact that he’s looked progressively better since the end of June and is back in the rotation makes him worth reconsidering.
