The Wire Troll: Anders Lee Emerges on Island

Hayes is one of many rookies having a quality debut. Through 51 games, he has 10 goals, 25 points and a plus-7 rating, good enough for eighth-best among NHL greenhorns and three points shy of seventh-leading rookie scorer Lee. The big (6’5″, 225-pound) forward had three goals, six points, a plus-6 rating, two penalty minutes, a shorthanded point, 11 shots on goal, 13 face-offs won, two hits and four blocks last week.

The Wire Troll: David Desharnais Worth a Look

For a guy that has eight goals, 30 points and a plus-12 rating through 51 games this season, Desharnais is quite available both in ESPN and CBS, but also in Yahoo leagues, in which he’s only 11 per cent owned. In three games in Week 17, the diminutive pivot had a goal, six points, a plus-6 rating, a power play point, five shots on goal, 39 face-offs won, a hit and a blocked shot. If you have the space, we suggest you add this guy immediately.

The Wire Troll: Who the Heck is Cedric Paquette?

While Paquette’s total points are a little underwhelming, all signs are pointing to a potential bursting of the dam, so to speak. The Lightning’s fourth round pick in 2012 is currently on a four-game point streak with five goals and six points in that span. He had an assist while playing just two games with Tampa Bay last season, but was a great first year pro with the club’s top minor league affiliate in Syracuse, collecting 20 goals and 44 points in 70 games. With four goals and seven points in five games with the Crunch this season, it was clear Paquette was ready for the NHL, and he seems to be vindicating that notion.

2014 RotoRob Hockey Awards

However, that’s not entirely accurate due to the date of this writing, and Crosby is all but guaranteed to put up more points before 2015 arrives. Still, unlike last year, he’s fallen into a bit of a scoring slump, going pointless in 10 of 27 games played this season and five of the last 10. It would be concerning if it wasn’t for the fact that he still has 35 points and a plus-9 rating regardless.

The Wire Troll: Devan Dubnyk Gets Fresh Start

The 14th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Dubnyk spent years plying his trade with the Edmonton Oilers. He quickly learned goaltending alone wouldn’t fix the club, and was finally traded last season to the Nashville Predators. After a poor two appearances with the Preds, Dubnyk would then be traded to Montreal and finished the season with the historic franchise’s farm team.

The Wire Troll: Dustin Tokarski Shines in Limited Role

Still, even watching on a TV screen, it’s unnerving when the Wild pivot gets worked up. Through 37 games this season, the 2001 sixth overall pick has six goals and 20 points, including a goal, four points, a minus-1 rating, four penalty minutes, three power play points, 14 shots on goal, 50 face-offs won, a hit and three blocked shots last week alone. Koivu will certainly contribute to your Fantasy team, but will the fiery Finn be enough to lift Minnesota?
