Nets Throw Uncle Cliffy a Bone
Even old people need excitement. Hell, there’s a whole industry (Cialis, Viagra, etc.) devoted to this concept.
So imagine how stoked Clifford Robinson was when he returned from knee surgery this week to find that his New Jersey Nets had added a new component to their in-game entertainment package.
Robinson, at 40 the NBA’s senior statesman, had been out since November and, for a man his age, made a pretty rapid recovery. But how much of his recovery was fuelled by incentive? Incentive to get back to the ladies, that is.
While Uncle Cliffy was off rehabbing, the Nets were getting busy putting together the NBA’s first Senior Citizen Dance Squad, comprised of 14 ladies and one gentlemen (lucky stiff, eh?) each at least 60 years old. Talk about grey power.
So during selected Nets’ home games, instead of seeing these hotties, you’ll get to witness, among others, 82-year-old Margaret and 80-year-old Fanny gyrating across the floor (sorry, but I don’t want to see anyone’s 80-year-old fanny).
I don’t know. I mean, how sexy can it be seeing youth-challenged women shaking their saggy booties to the Glenn Miller Orchestra? It’s not exactly bow chica bow bow-inspiring, is it?
I assume most of the players are pretty weirded out by the whole thing, but for an aging vet like Robinson, closer in age to them than most of the traditional NBA dancers whom he is probably old enough to have fathered, he must be thinking “finally, some fine lookin’ ladies that have been around the block a few times (and then a few more) for me to get busy…er…I mean, to play Bingo with.”
So inspired by the blue-haired dance pack is Robinson that last night he threw up five points, three blocks and two sets of dentures.
