Fantasy Notes: Aubrey Gets the Call…Sort of
- Injury-prone Indians prospect Michael Aubrey was recalled to the 40-man roster last week, but he won’t actually report to the team. It’s a procedural move as the team filled out its 40-man roster. If this kid could stay healthy, he’d have a great shot at being the Cleveland first baseman of the future. As it stands, limited to just 14 games this year, Aubrey has been passed by Ryan Garko on the depth chart. It looks Aubrey will play in the AFL this year, and it’s critical he prove himself healthy if he wants to carve out a future in Cleveland.
- White Sox starter Jose Contreras is done for the year because of a strained right hamstring. Is there a player on the White Sox who better encapsulates the 2006 season for Chicago? Conteras was a total stud in the playoffs last year, and burst out of the gates on fire this season, going 5-0 through May. In fact, his remarkable winning streak continued through June before he finally lost in July, but Contreras was a very different pitcher in the second half. He was 9-0, 3.38 before the break, but just 4-9, 5.40 afterwards. And now, as the White Sox fade away down the stretch, he’s got to shut it down for the year. It’s going to be very hard to try to assess which Contreras you’ll be drafting in 2007.
