Fantasy Notes: Biggio Snaps Serious Donut
- With his home run in the sixth inning on Sunday, Craig Biggio snapped an 0-for-30 skid. According to Elias and its great number crunchers, Biggio’s hitless drought is just the second time in the past 40 years that anyone who had already racked up that many career hits went at least 30 at-bats without a hit. Cal Ripken, Jr. struggled through an 0-for-33 slump just before the end of his career. Coincidence? Um, Biggio — the baseball gods are trying to tell you something. Dude, it’s time to retire. Ya, we all know you desperately want those 83 more hits for 3,000, but how do you want people to remember you? As a hustling, offensive sparkplug who drove a great Astro offense for 19 years, or as a weak-hitting hanger-on, who was an offensive liability because of a .305 OBP? Have you seen Mr. 3000, Craig?
