After a down season in 2023-24, the New Jersey Devils bounced back last season and returned to the playoffs. They weren’t nearly as dominant as they’d been in 2022-23, but were at least good enough to qualify for the postseason. However, there is still work to do in the swamp as the Devils have not got past the second round since 2011-12.

While the Arizona Cardinals showed great progress last year, they still endured a third straight losing season, mostly thanks to a defense that did improve, but was still not good enough.

Two seasons ago, the New Orleans Pelicans looked like a team on the rise, winning 49 games to enjoy their finest campaign since 2008-09. They made the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, and while they still haven’t got past the first round since 2017-18, things were looking up.

No, Bieber WHIP isn’t quite as sparkling as it was in his brief time last year before he got hurt, but his hit rates are solid so it’s still damn impressive for a pitcher who’s been out as long as he was. He’s still punching out more than a batter per inning and has shown a level of command (5.1 K/BB ratio) that you don’t normally see right away from hurlers coming off TJS.

The club struggles to attract top free agents to the city, so has a tough time improving itself other than by trading, drafting smart and enjoying organic growth of its current roster.

Perhaps the shoulder was still barking a bit on Sunday, but it’s not an ongoing concern, so consider London a low-end WR1 in Week Three when he faces a solid Carolina pass D, and a slam dunk top 10 receiver for the remainder of the season. He became a solid starter far quicker than expected and the former Trojan has the size and length to continue to improve in the NFL, perhaps ultimately reaching top five status.

Despite missing two games last season, Johnston stepped up in his sophomore year, pulling in 55 receptions on 91 targets for 711 yards, upping his YPR and scoring way more TDs. And based on his Week One showing (five catches on seven targets for 79 yards with two touchdowns and an 80.6 per cent snap rate), he’s poised to take another big step this season.
