The Wire Troll: Brown Goes Down, Chatman To The Rescue?
Well, Week Seven has come and gone in the National Football League and another top round pick is done for the season (Ronnie Brown). What makes it worse is that I too blew a high round pick on him and all I have to show for it is half a season of very good fantasy play. So, what do we do now? You should know the drill by now.
Jessie Chatman: The Dolphins are a number one overall pick kind of team this year, which means they will be out to see what they have in some of their unknowns like Chatman and Cleo Lemon. Since they have no real wide receivers to speak of, the running game will be an important aspect of their offensive scheme. Chatman is the guy that will get nearly all the carries so he has a chance to do well. He will do well off the waiver wire simply because he is the tallest midget there and should be owned in all formats and leagues larger than eight teams.
Jerious Norwood: It is not that he has started to get more carries or is stealing TDs from Warrick Dunn. But, Norwood has clearly shown he can make things happen when he gets the touches by posting an impressive 5.8 YPC over 47 rushing attempts this season. The only problem is that head coach Bobby Petrino seems set on ignoring that and going with Dunn instead. Norwood is someone I suspect will start to get more carries in the second half of the season, so he might not be a bad guy to stash on the bench just in case. He should be owned in 12-team leagues.
Detroit Defense: I know the Lions play Chicago, but I have a feeling that this is the week where Brian Griese goes Rex Grossman and the Detroit defense will be the winners because of it. I’m not going to tell you to play them over your regular defense. But, if you are a week-to-week defense guy and need someone to play Week Eight for you, I’d suggest the Lions’ defense as a possibility.
