Dear RotoRob: All’s Well that Ends Wells
Dear RotoRob.com,
So my team has been performing very well for me recently and I have been able to climb back from 65 games out to 25 games out’LOL. The only thing stopping my team from gaining further I feel is Vernon Wells. What do I do with him? No one seems to want to trade for him, and I don’t think I can drop him. And I don’t have anyone to drop to pick up an extra OF to replace him either.
My current team is listed below.
Hitters:
Kenji Jojhima, Albert Pujols, Carlos Pena, Brian Roberts, Ryan Zimmerman, Ryan Braun, Hanley Ramirez, Edgar Renteria, Carlos Lee, Manny Ramirez, Wells.
Pitchers:
Felix Hernandez, Matt Cain, Matt Morris, Kelvim Escobar, Joe Blanton, Claudio Vargas, Daniel Cabrera, Fausto Carmona, Carlos Villanueva, Armando Benitez, Al Reyes, Billy Wagner.
DL: Philip Hughes
Dan
Dan,
Well, it is looking more and more like this season is a wash for Wells. I wouldn’t feel bad about cutting ties with him, as his .245/.302/.394 line is certainly waiver wire worthy. Maybe someone else does pick him up, but let him waste a roster spot on a guy that is just not performing. I ditched Wells from my team a month and a half ago.
I’d look for guys like Corey Hart, Reggie Willits, Eric Byrnes, Brad Hawpe, Shane Victorino, Ra’l Iba’ez, Ken Griffey Jr., Gary Matthews Jr., Jos’ Bautista, or maybe Hunter Pence. After them you can look at part-time people like Matt Stairs, Juan Encarnaci’n, or Xavier Nady. These are all guys that were ranked in the 150+ range for pre-season rankings, but have been in the top 100 over the past month.
A lot of them won’t be available, but you might be able to pick them up for Wells if you offer the struggling Jay for one of them straight up.
