The Wire Troll: Getting Wired on the Waiver Wire

October 20, 2007 | By James Morris | comment on this post

At this point in the NFL season, if you are still looking over the waiver wire for starters, something went wrong. There are no full-time players that should be on the wire, and the only guys who see the field that are on the wire are there for a reason. But, let me run down what is out there and what to expect from them.

Byron Leftwich: Leftwich is starting now in Atlanta, but his lack of mobility has always plagued him in his NFL career. How will the Falcons react going from a guy who takes a one step drop and takes off running to a guy that has cement blocks over his ankles? Well, that’s the question. I think the Falcons’ receivers will benefit from Leftwich’s improved accuracy (compared to Michael Vick, that is), but I don’t think they are worth grabbing just yet. If you have Alge Crumpler, hang on to him for now; but, don’t go out and drop someone decent for Roddy White because the Falcons do have a suspect O-Line.

Brandon Stokley: Because Javon Walker is out six weeks, Stokely becomes this week’s must-have WR. I don’t think he will be available in a ton of leagues, but I have seen him on the wire in a few. If he happens to be available in your league, I would suggest that you pick him up.

Washington defense: They play the Cardinals and Kurt Warner is banged up. ‘Nuff said! If Washington is available still, then shame on you for not keeping up with the goings on! Pick up the Redskins.
