NFL Week Five Analysis: The Sleepers Have Awoken

Fantasy Football Week Five Analysis
Need some help with your Week Five sleeper picks? (TopBet.eu)

In preparation for Fantasy play Week Five of the NFL season, it’s time to make some moves in your Fantasy leagues and to also take a closer look at the once forgotten teams. Before the season kicked off there were a few squads that people had completely written off. However, thanks to a broken jaw, the rise of a few rookies and an injured star, the landscape has changed dramatically. For a better look at what’s ahead we thought we’d check in with one of this week’s sportbook expert picks.

Once-Sleeper Teams to Revisit

Buffalo Bills (AFC East): The Bills are off to a 2-2 start, but could very easily have be 3-1 or perhaps undefeated had their defense been a little more disciplined the past few weeks. The bottom line is that Buffalo is a dark horse in a division that’s completely up for grabs. Look for the Bills to storm Titans this weekend.

Atlanta Falcons (NFC South): Like the Carolina Panthers (also a surprise), the Falcons are off to a perfect 4-0 start in 2015. Julio Jones has been an absolute beast (maybe even Jerry Rice-like, as per the video below) along with second-year running back Devonta Freeman (see below for more on him), who has really taken advantage of the rib injury to rookie Tevin Coleman. The Falcons have put up the second-most points in the NFL to this point (137, behind only Arizona’s 148) and have the troubled Washington Redskins in their crosshairs this weekend.

Jacksonville Jaguars (NFC South): The Jags are not an every weekend play, but in Week Five look for them to make some noise. They absolutely should have beaten the Andrew Luck-less Colts in Week Four, but thanks to missed field goal after missed field goal by rookie kicker Jason Myers, they couldn’t quite pull it off. This weekend, look for Jacksonville to redeem itself against Tampa Bay and QB Jameis Winston — who was picked four times in Week Four. The Jags won’t have an easier matchup all year.

Once-Sleeper Fantasy Pickups

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, New York Jets: The Jets’ replacement/”insurance guy should Geno Smith go down” took the reins this summer after Smith broke his jaw. “Fitzmagic” has been incredible, leading the Jets to a superb 3-1 start to the season. He has seven touchdown passes and 934 yards passing already and, aside from New England in Week Seven, has a cupcake schedule until November 12 (Washington, New England, Oakland, Jacksonville).

Devonta Freeman, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Freeman has been a Fantasy god so far this season. He’s had no less than 10 touches in every game and has put up six touchdowns in his last two performances. Although he only had 65 totes as rookie last season, in 2015, he’s leading an Atlanta ground game that’s been non-existent since the days of Michael Turner.

Karlos Williams, RB, Buffalo Bills: The backup running back scored a touchdown in the first three games of the season. He’s been a total Fantasy dream come true and has put up strong numbers week in and week out. While Williams is currently dealing with a concussion, if he’s healthy he’ll have the starting gig for at least a few more weeks as Buffalo’s huge offseason pickup (LeSean McCoy) recovers from a hamstring injury.

Now it’s your turn. Let us know in the comments below which sleepers you’re targeting for Week Five.

The Wire Troll: It’s Tim Tebow Time

October 12, 2011 | by Buck Davidson | Comments Comments Off on The Wire Troll: It’s Tim Tebow Time
Well, what have we here? Painter threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns — without a pick — against Kansas City in Week Five, thus solidifying his hold on the Colts’ starting job. There’s a downside here, though: 237 of Painter’s yards came in the first half, and that kind of inconsistency should be expected as he adapts to the NFL. He is making progress, though, and as long as he’s at the helm of the Colts’ weapon-laden offense, he’s worthy of consideration in larger Fantasy leagues. He faces a tough matchup in Cincy this week, but Painter is a serviceable option in two-quarterback leagues if one of your regulars is on a bye.

An Open Letter to Fantasy Football Owners

December 26, 2009 | by Alex Hardin | Comments Comments Off on An Open Letter to Fantasy Football Owners
Despite the fact that the Saints are a win away from locking up home field throughout and a bye, they seem to be leaning towards playing out each game with starters. But, since they lost their undefeated status, they may start to limit reps if in Week 17 if they have nothing to play for. All Saints seem to be a safe play this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
