The Wire Troll: Brock Holt is a Fantasy Brock Star

Brock Holt keep racking up the hits for the Boston Red Sox.
Brock Holt is suddenly Mr. Everything for the BoSox. (

As we continue to try to aide your Fantasy cause, here are some named that could help you through your rash of ailments and injuries. A look at this week’s Fantasy baseball waiver wire recommendations:

Brock Holt, OF/3B, Boston Red Sox (ESPN: 29 per cent owned; CBS: 49 per cent): In late-April we clued you in to the diminutive Holt, who has become something of a cult hero in Boston and affectionately earned the name “Brock Star.” He hit for the cycle (see video below) on Monday against Atlanta and, in addition to providing you solid on-base numbers, he can cover a lot of positions as well. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Holt on the mound at some point, either, given the plight of the Red Sox this season.

Kyle Schwarber, C, Chicago Cubs (ESPN: 25.9 per cent; CBS: 44 per cent): Schwarber may be headed back to the minors, but he’ll be back supplying his trademark power before you know it, so if you have room, keep him stashed.

Chris Parmelee, 1B/OF, Baltimore Orioles (ESPN: 13.5 per cent; CBS: 10 per cent): What a quick impact Parmelee has made in Baltimore, socking three home runs in his first two games. A player who opened eyes last year with a walk-off home run against Andrew Miller, Parmalee is more than capable of providing power to your lineup.

Williams Perez, SP, Atlanta Braves (ESPN: 16.6 per cent; CBS: 30 per cent): Perez has been outstanding in his early showing as a starter, and even picked up a save last week against the Mets. In three of his last four starts, he has not permitted an earned run while working at least six innings.

Taylor Jungmann, SP, Milwaukee Brewers (ESPN: 4.8 per cent; CBS: 8 per cent): The highly-touted Jungmann has won two of his first three starts for the struggling Brew Crew and will continue to get a long look in a rotation that may lose several members as the trade deadline approaches.

Dioner Navarro, C, Toronto Blue Jays (ESPN: 1.1 per cent; CBS: 6 per cent): Russell Martin still needs a breather every now and then, and Navarro even got a start at DH Saturday, so you know his bat is still valued to some degree by the Jays.

Ryan Flaherty, 2B, Baltimore Orioles (ESPN: 1.7 per cent; CBS: 2 per cent): Flaherty has enjoyed a solid June while flashing occasional pop and will continue to get the bulk of the playing time at second base until Jonathan Schoop returns from the DL.

Jordy Mercer, SS, Pittsburgh Pirates (ESPN: 2.5 per cent; CBS: 6 per cent): Mercer is generally a light hitter, but has come around somewhat of late and could be a viable stop-gap solution.

Robbie Ray, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks (ESPN: 17.8 per cent; CBS: 18 per cent): Ray had posted two scoreless starts in his last three outings prior to a rough game Saturday, and the southpaw is worth a look.

Others to Consider

Jace Peterson, 2B, Atlanta Braves (ESPN: 46.9 per cent; CBS: 49 per cent): Just over a month ago, we recommended Peterson, yet the Padres’ supplemental first rounder from 2011 is still available in over half the leagues out there. He has major potential as a basestealer, even if he’s struggling in that regard this year.

Khris Davis, OF, Milwaukee Brewers (ESPN: 8.1 per cent; CBS: 29 per cent): Davis is making nice progress in his recovery from knee surgery. Despite the power he’s flashed so far in the bigs, he continues to fly under the radar, making him an excellent second half sleeper.

Stephen Drew, 2B, New York Yankees (ESPN: 4.6; CBS: 9 per cent): The 15th overall pick from 2004 has really struggled offensively this year, but is suddenly showing life with three straight two-hit games, including Sunday, when he enjoyed his third multi-homer game — this month.
