After a simply horrific start to the season, Uggla seemed to be getting his act together for a couple of months, but despite enjoying his best power month in July, the rest of his numbers took a powder. So far in August (1-for-7) things have not changed.

After months of speculation, Zunino has arrived in Seattle. In 185 at-bats at Triple-A Tacoma he hit 11 bombs with 43 RBI which, on the surface, looks great but with a BB/K ratio of 14/59, we recommend you be cautious with your expectations. Zunino has the potential to be a very good backstop (and he sure looked good in lining his first big league hit — see below), but he could also struggle offensively early on as we’ve seen with so many young catchers as they try to adjust to the demands of handling a big league staff.

Hell, he’s nearly on pace for a 20-homer/20-steal season, and those don’t grow on trees, so Cabrera has become a must-own Fantasy asset since donning a Royal uniform. Who the hell saw this one coming? This is the same player that had just four homers and 42 RBI in 458 at-bats for the Braves last year, right?

He was a workhorse last year, and even though his WHIP rose slightly, he was able to cut his ERA by giving up just one freaking homer all season long. Mr. Stingy doesn’t like when fans get a souvenir, apparently. Bell’s strikeout rate has risen the past two years, something Fantasy owners aren’t likely to complain about, but it’s also meant that it’s taking him longer to get through innings, and that’s something that could take a toll down the stretch. As good as Bell has been as a closer, he’s someone that could be traded and wind up in a less significant role on a contender. Food for thought.

Even in a down year, Ramirez still posted a .300-21-76 line with 32 stolen bases, which included a strong showing over the final two months. The 27-year-old is just entering his physical prime, and playing at a relatively thin position only enhances his value. There aren’t many legitimate five-category performers in Fantasy baseball, but Ramirez is one of them. He’s a top-five talent and should be selected accordingly.

After bottoming out in 2008 with just 72 wins, the Braves made nice strides in 2009, winning 86 games. Last year, they consolidated those gains by upping their win total to 91, good enough to win the National League Wild Card and a trip back to the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
