Well, it was another one of those episodes of RotoRob’s Fantasy Baseball Weekly Podcast (heard every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST on Blogtalkradio) this week. Perhaps the biggest single change from last year to this is switching all the dribbling moves to the right analog stick, and adding the left trigger as a modifier to use the stick for shooting. 2k Sports’ decision to consolidate the in-game action this way feels great and is a welcome change for anyone who struggled with the undeniably complex setup of past versions. The new scheme is responsive and makes pulling off moves such as crossovers and hesitation dribbles easier than ever — and for those that liked things the way they were, the previous controls are available as well.

Derek Jeter currently sits just 10 hits behind Eddie Collins for ninth place all-time. By the time next season is over, it is not entirely inconceivable that The Captain could be in the top five. For perspective, Jeter is 295 games shy of tying Craig Biggio’s total, but is already 244 hits past the Astro great. Just think about that one for a moment.

There are a few things that jump out from Beltre’s 2012 season. The most striking item is his work against righties. The right-handed hitter didn’t exactly scuffle against them in 2011 (836 OPS vs. 1076 against southpaws), but this season he dominated righties to the tune of a 984 OPS (compared to a surprisingly low 737 mark against lefties).

As you progress through the main story and take control of other shipmates, you’ll be able to go back and replay past chapters with your choice of character in “Another Log” mode. Plus, take the fight online in a co-op mode where you conquer territories along with fellow pirates. Whichever way you choose to play, you’ll always be able to earn special collectors coins for your troubles, marked with the game’s characters, pirate flags and other artwork. These coins can be equipped in slots that you acquire when leveling up — match up the correct set of coins and you’ll be rewarded with special attributes and power ups.

Last season, Bryant reversed a trend of five straight seasons of declining play. He saw way more PT and put up his most shots per game since 2005-06 although he had his worst shooting season since he was a soph. Kobe made up for that with great work from the line, although the extra minutes translated into more turnovers. He heads a remade lineup that is brimming with stars and should burst out of the gates as one of the top teams in the NBA.
