Another maddening occurrence is when you get “downed” in cover, which happens when you lose the last of your health from a bullet but have at least one bottle of painkillers remaining. The game switches into slow motion at that point, and if you can line up a shot on an enemy the pills are automatically ingested and you live to fight on. The issue is after standard gameplay resumes you’re left vulnerable on the ground, which is fine except that Max won’t get up directly into cover. Instead you have to stand up and probably get shot again before he nonchalantly ducks behind something.

Video Game Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

Well, you know the drill, gamers — this is Sonic! Run, jump and spin at top speeds to collect golden rings and reach the finish line. Much like the previous installment, the blue blur can also home in on auto-targeted enemies and objects with a simple press of the jump button. And, of course, crouch down and quickly tap the same button for the signature spin dash. This time, though, Sonic isn’t alone as his longtime sidekick Tails comes along for the ride. The “X” button is the key to teaming up for special combo moves. Press it in the air for Tails to carry Sonic to new heights or press it while grounded for a duo dash that can break specific walls and barriers.

Video Game Review: Starhawk

There are three distinct methods of travel (and combat): plane, ground vehicle and on foot. Each one has its own unique setup with the core on-foot shooting mechanics taking top honours. Shooting in particular is tight and responsive, which makes for good accuracy when aiming down the sight. The triggers control sprinting (left) and grenade throwing (right), while the face buttons cover jumping, crouching and reloading.

The Wire Troll: Dayan Viciedo Cleaning Up in ChiTown

After taking two of the past three weeks off it’s about time I got back in the saddle and earned my keep. Last week was a first as it appears as if we might have actually gone a full seven days without a closer being replaced. The revolving door at the closer position has slowed somewhat but both the Mets and Reds could be on the verge of making moves to shore up the position. What an incredible mess bullpens have been so far in 2012. This week we have a mixed bag of speed/power, potential saves, and injury replacements, so without further ado let’s get to our recommendations of the week.
