The Wire Troll: Christmas Wishlist Part Uno

Next week with Part Deux, we will wrap up with the players that have already delivered on some of our more far fetched wishes. It seems hard to believe, but Week 11 is the midpoint of the Fantasy hockey season in leagues with playoffs. With that in mind, time is of the essence and with the Christmas roster freeze in effect starting Monday until December 27, that time is now.

MLB Today: The Gio Gonzalez Sweepstakes

Other teams that are said to be interested are Miami (is there anyone the Marlins aren’t after this offseason?), Seattle (which would be wiser to use its assets to acquire offense, not pitching), Cincinnati (which definitely needs the starting pitching), Boston (again, could use the upgrade) and Texas (which needs Gonzalez less desperately than most on this list).

MLB Today: Dontrelle Willis Signs with Philly

The Dodgers will hand out bobbleheads of former great all season long, so there’s nothing unusual there, but choosing to give out Scioscia’s on the same day his club visits is a bizarre choice. What happens if the massively improved Halos hammer the Dodgers that game? Will Dodger fans make it rain with Scioscia bobbleheads? That could be an ugly scene and it could have – and should have — been avoided.

Video Game Review: RAAM’s Shadow DLC

I’d also suggest that for a prequel set near the start of The Locust War, everyone seems far too comfortable with the phenomenon of monstrous creatures emerging from underground. They all know exactly what each Locust is by name, and at one point Barrick even suggests that he’s looking forward to meeting General RAAM. It was one thing for a war-weary Delta Squad to treat these things as old hat; it’s another for Zeta to have such a “been there, done that” attitude toward the burgeoning Kryll storm that’s going to wipe out life in the city.

The Wire Troll: The Emergence of Jake Locker

Though Locker came up five yards short of a victory, his performance was impressive enough that he may earn the start Sunday against the woeful Indianapolis Colts. Locker has a cannon for an arm, and the rookie should be able to amass some decent numbers against Indy’s soft secondary. Consider adding him in two-quarterback formats and he’s a must-add in dynasty leagues.

Video Game Review: The Kore Gang

Platforming titles depend on their jumping mechanics to make them good, and here the jumping height falls a bit short, making for some disappointing stage navigation and sometimes cheap deaths. Wiimote utilization is decent and mostly responsive, featuring moves such as arching up to aim bomb throws or eavesdropping by listening to the built-in speaker. It’s not without hiccups, though, and a couple of functions like the loose and finicky lock-picking seem to steer away the fun. And oddly, the camera doesn’t simply follow your cursor as you play. The need to hold “Z” while pointing to move the camera seems redundant and unmotivated. Overall, the controls could use some refining in just about every department — even a little tweaking could have bumped them from average to good, or maybe even great.
