Brett Myers Deserves Some Hardware

Myers came to Houston looking for a chance to revitalize his career as opposed to trying to cash in, and it worked wonders. The Astros wisely locked him up to a two-year extension in August, taking him off the market. He did an excellent job of reducing his home rate (thanks to getting more ground balls than flyballs for the first time in his career) while his strikeout rate also made a nice recovery.

Video Game Review: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011

There appear to have been some minor advancements graphically as wrestler models looked a bit sharper this year. Animations continue to be very strong, particularly when executing moves or transitioning between holds — it can be a bit clunky when strikes are involved. The addition of Havoc physics lends more tangible mass to the game’s various foreign objects, and it makes for some cool moments even though you’re sure to see glitches pop up as well.

2010 AFL Roundup: Eric Hosmer is Back

The first baseman started slowly in the AFL, then began to heat up last week, but has slipped this week (0-for-13 in the last three games). Still, even if Hosmer’s AFL numbers aren’t jumping off the page (.184 BA and 476 OPS), he’s still been productive, driving in ten runs in 11 games. And considering he’s played a ton of ball this season (he was with Team USA for the 2011 Pan Am Games qualifying tournament), you’ve got to cut the kid some slack. Hosmer has returned to top prospect status, and has put himself within a year or two of the bigs along with a very nice wave of talent the Royals have on the way that may finally help turn this team around.
