Video Game Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010

As noted, however, the fundamentals will take you a long way and can be learned quickly. You move with the left stick (now in a full 360 degrees) and can employ three separate types of passes: short (A), long/cross (B) and through (Y). Moving the right stick also allows you to pass in a specific direction manually rather than to a teammate. Shooting is handled with the X button, which when held down fills up a meter — the fuller it is the harder you shoot, though you sacrifice accuracy. Finding the proper balance between getting enough on the shot to get it past the keeper and not so much that you send it six rows deep ranks as one of the game’s constant challenges.

2010 Sleepers: Jay Bruce

This former top prospect got off to a fine start this season, but as he was prone to long slumps, things went progressively downhill from there until a broken wrist in July wound up costing Bruce a large chunk of the season. Despite being limited to around two-thirds worth of a season of at bats and suffering through an awful batting average, there were plenty of reasons to get excited about what Bruce might be capable of doing in 2010.

The Wire Troll: Freeze Frame?

As many hockey fans know, this weekend is the start of the Christmas Roster Freeze. Simply put, it means players cannot be moved (via the trade or waiver route) until after December 25. There are players that are probably sitting on your waiver wire and you are mulling whether or not to pluck them. Well, this is a very good question that many are pondering this time of year. Keep in mind that in the case of public leagues, you really (in most cases) do not know who you are playing. However, most times you do know your opponents or have an idea about their strategy. If the latter is the case, then follow this simple mantra: “Be quick or be dead.”

When Trades Attack (Value)

One of the most important reasons to pay attention to trade rumours is the effect it can have on your players’ values. Obviously, park factors is a large consideration, but the key issue here is what the trade will mean to not only the role of the player being dealt but to the roles of his new and old teammates.

Fantasy Hockey Roundtable: Drop Them While They’re Hot

The hot player I’m considering dumping is Stephen Weiss from the Florida Panthers. He’s coming off a December 2 hat trick and has five goals in his last five games. He’s got 13 goals and 11 assists in his first 31 games. Weiss is having a career season. Amazingly, he’s never scored more than 20 goals in a season and he’s never had more than 48 points. One school of thought says Weiss will continue to sizzle, but I’m guessing, as the Panthers continue to struggle, his production will return to his usual low-to-average levels. There’s nothing in his history to suggest he’s about to evolve into an offensive superstar. Weiss is doing well right now, and some Fantasy owners are probably cashing in on his recent hot streak, but I’m betting this is all just an illusion.

The Great Jay Swoon

Well, the Jays then went out on a nine-game road trip and, after a soft early-season schedule, began to face the cream de la cream of the Junior Circuit. The result was a nine-game losing skid that essentially shredded the team’s hopes of a miracle season.
