Wire Troll: Is Warner the Big Grab?

October 10, 2007 | By James Morris | comment on this post

Well, another week is down and another injury takes its toll on your fantasy team. Matt Leinart is done for the season and veteran Kurt Warner has taken over as the starter in Arizona. So, do you pick him up or look elsewhere? Let’s find out.

Cut Loose: Lee Evans — If you haven’t cut him yet, feel free to do so now. Evens is not having a good season after his great 2006, and with J.P. Losman ailing, I don’t see Evans turning it around, and he is just wasting away on your roster.

Pick-Up: I’ve got to give this one to Warner. But, this comes with a buyer beware tag. Warner has cement feet and will suffer from a lot of sacks and hurried passes resulting in INTs. But, with the bad comes the good. Warner has weapons on offense and should be a nice fill in for the Cards. If I need help or my QB has a bye, I don’t see a problem starting Warner.

Kenton Keith: Keith is not going to overtake Joseph Addai as the starter, but Addai has never been an every down back in the NFL and college. So, Keith will continue to see enough touches to make him a decent flex option in most leagues. I still like Addai, but Keith has proven that he can fill in nicely when Addai needs a brake. He makes for a good handcuff/flex option.

Derrick Mason: I see him available in a lot of my leagues and it is because of the lack of yards. If he was getting the yards, Mason would be a fantasy monster. Mason has had at least seven catches in every game this season and has caught 10 and 11 balls in his last two games. If he ever starts getting the yards, the touchdowns will follow and he could easily be a WR1 with the amount of looks he is getting from Steve McNair. Mason’s 44 catches leads the league.
