Dear RotoRob: Knock on Wood

February 4, 2007 | By RotoRob | comment on this post
Would the Los Angeles Angels shift shortstop prospect Brandon Wood to third base?
Could Angels shortstop prospect Brandon Wood wind up at third base?

Dear RotoRob,

Do you see Brandon Wood starting at third?

Max

Hi Max,

I don’t see that happening this year unless Chone Figgins is a total flop defensively. I suppose there’s always the chance that Figgins will shift back into the super sub role again, but I’m pretty sure that you’ll see a combination of Shea Hillebrand, Robb Quinlan and Figgins handling third before that Wood ever sees action there in the bigs this year. Even then, I believe the Angels prefer him as a power hitting shortstop with size.

Wood could use a bit more seasoning and the Angels seem to have enough spare parts that there’s no need to rush him to a new position just for the sake of getting his bat in the lineup ‘ a bat that may not even be major league ready quite yet.

Dear RotoRob,

The site looks great – I emailed your link out to the league.

I am trying to think about strategy and since I will have more money than most, is it worth spending $45 to $50 on Albert Pujols (with 16 teams and $300 cap that is where he will go) or should I instead work on Brandon Webb, Roy Halladay or Jake Peavy – those three will all go for around $30 each – I guess I could try and buy both?

I am really high on Rocco Baldelli – he ended strong in ’07 and I think he is finally healthy enough to have a huge breakout – do you agree? I think I can buy him for around $19?

Mitch

Hi Mitch

Cool, thanks for spreading the gospel, man.

How the hell is Pujols even available??? If you’ve got extra cash to spend, $45 to $50 is not unreasonable for Pujols. Trying to get a couple of pitchers is not a bad idea, but given the inherent risks involved with buying pitching, I prefer you anchor your team with a big bat.

Yes, I think Rocco can definitely be had for $19, perhaps even a buck or two less. And I agree that he’s a tremendous pick this season. He’s all about upside for 2007. I can’t believe he’s still only 25!

Good luck!
