2006 RotoRob Awards: Hockey
Presented by Mike Chen:
Fantasy Stud of the Year
Sidney Crosby — Goals, assists, power play points, PIMs. Sid the Kid has it all.
Fantasy Dud of the Year
Martin Gerber — Sure, Gerber sounded like a good bet. After posting 38 wins with Carolina, Gerber has been atrocious for the Sens and relegated to benchwarming status.
Rookie of the Year
Evgeni Malkin — This pick’s a no-brainer. Malkin should end up with better than a point per game and gets the added bonus of complementing Crosby to start out his career.
Comeback Player of the Year
Jean-Sebastian Giguere — A good regular season, but a playoff no-show led to questions regarding the former Conn Smyth winner. This season, however, Giguere may be the best goalie in the league.
Presented by RotoRob:
GM of the Month Award
In mid-July, Neil Smith had been at the helm of the Islanders for exactly 40 days when owner/software mogul Charles Wang decided it was time for a change. Uh yeah’so just a month and change after hiring him, the Isles dump a guy who helped build a Stanley Cup winner for the Rangers and give the job to’their back-up goalie??? That’s right ‘ Garth Snow ascended to the throne of the Islanders after the quick departure of Smith. Had the ink even dried on Smith’s business cards yet?
