The only problem there is Dellucci couldn’t get a hit against a southpaw with a tree trunk, so he’s better suited as a platoon player. Luckily, Victorino hits lefties slightly better than righties. So we suppose the best bet is a platoon, a situation that would increase Dellucci’s value to some extent, but really render both players as Fantasy non factors. We still really like the switch-hitting Victorino’s chances to be a lead-off hitter down the road.

The Braves are another team on which opportunity knocks for any pitcher — especially a reliever — who can actually get anyone out. Atlanta went el cheapo on its bullpen this year, and the results have shown. But it’s created a situation in which unproven pitchers are getting their shot. And some of them have succeeded.

But from a Fantasy standpoint, there are a couple of areas we’d like to see improvement in. Firstly, although Bartlett’s OBP is healthy, he’s actually walking less often than he did last year. But of greater concern is that even though he’s been given the go ahead to run, he’s stolen just one base, getting caught twice. Combine that with Bartlett’s complete lack of power, and you have the makings of an empty .300 hitter.

But now, suddenly, Minnesota is riding another hot streak, one that has pulled it within a mere six games of the Wild Card lead. A scant couple of weeks down the road and a playoff spot doesn’t seem quite as farfetched.

Afflicted with a strained oblique, he was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 5, making him eligible to be activated later this week. Prior is starting to believe what countless Cubs fans already do: “The goat is starting to look real.” At any rate, Prior was scheduled to throw a bullpen session today to determine if he’ll go Thursday or wait until the weekend to make his next start… assuming the goat allows it.
