Fantasy Notes: The NL’s Best Player?
- Well, that might be a stretch calling him the National League’s best player, but 23-year-old Marlin third baseman Miguel Cabrera could make a claim. With back-to-back multi-hit games, he’s now taken over the NL batting lead with a .340 mark. We’re talking about a power-hitting batting leader. That’s just sick, especially given his tender age. Cabrera’s totals this year are off the hook: he leads the league with a .431 OBP, by far his best figure yet; he’s fourth in the league in OPS; 109 RBI has him fifth; he’s seventh with a career-best .586 slugging percentage; eighth with 105 runs, his second straight season with that many; he’s reached 25 homers for a third straight season; and his 76 walks are a new career high. The only NL players who are probably more valuable than Cabrera now are Ryan Howard, Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols and Carlos Beltran.
