Fantasy Notes: Hendrickson and Hall to Dodgers

June 29, 2006 | By RotoRob | comment on this post
Mark Hendrickson has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Mark Hendrickson’s value gets a boost now that he’s wearing Dodger blue.

The Dodgers have acquired southpaw Mark Hendrickson and catcher Toby Hall from Tampa Bay for Jae Seo, Dioneer Navarro and a PTBNM. Hendrickson is capable of winning some games, and his value definitely gets a nice boost here. Hall is a defensive star, but has struggled with the bat this year. Navarro, made expendable by the rapid emergence of Canadian backstop Russell Martin, still has a tremendously high ceiling. He takes over the catching job in Tampa Bay and is a great sleeper.

Seo’s value goes up too, as he gets to go back to starting. Bear in mind, however, that he moves away from one of the best pitching parks in the majors and has looked much better as a reliever than as a starter this year.

Rookie sensation Matt Kemp was shifted to the third spot in the batting order in the hopes of shaking him out of a mini slump. He had been 0-for-7 from the seventh spot in the order the past couple of games. It was hard to imagine Kemp keeping up the breakneck pace he burst out of the gates with, but I still love this kid long term. He’s 21 years old with power, speed and average. What’s not to love? It’s just the second time Kemp has batted third, but if the move is long term, you can expect a hell of lot more RBI from the budding star.
